Where does Matt stand on election integrity?

Why I’m Running

The unfortunate passing of Congressman Jim Hagedorn has resulted in a Special Election to fill his seat.

As a lifelong resident of southern Minnesota, born and raised on the family farm, I am ready to fight the progressive left and defend our traditional American values. We need bold change to take back our country!

With your support and vote, I will be a strong conservative voice to stand up for our farmers, families and main street businesses. Our rural way of life is worth protecting! I would be honored to serve on your behalf.

Get to Know Matt

Matt Benda is a lifelong resident of southern Minnesota, agricultural law attorney, rural Minnesota advocate and Republican Party activist who lives in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

Matt was born and raised on the family farm, Old Acres, in Alpha, Minnesota and he and his family have deep connections to Minnesota’s agricultural community. While at Drake, he was Founding Editor of the Journal of Agricultural Law and did policy work for the Farm Bureau and U.S. Department of Agriculture. Twice named “Attorney of the Year” for his work in the community, Matt previously served as chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Agricultural Law Section Council.

Matt has long been involved as an advocate for rural Minnesota and his hometown of Albert Lea, serving as Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Albert Lea Economic Development Agency, 4-H Youth Leader, and Chair of the Catholic School Board. He and his wife Heather, a CPA in Albert Lea, have been married 22 years and have two children. The family attends St. Theodore’s Catholic Church.
