The Kingmakers and D.C. Insiders Have Spoken
Yesterday (Tuesday), I received a call from a Minnesota National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) party operative. The purpose of the call was to inform me they were in conversation with the State Republican Party to consider postponing the First District Convention until after the May 24th Special Primary Election.
They were testing the waters to see if I would agree to this approach. Of course, I emphatically said no as I have respect for the endorsement process and there are people’s lives and schedules that have been committed to this date and time.
Apparently, there is concern that someone may win the endorsement on April 23rd who is different than who they hope will win the May 24th Special Primary Election. This call reminded me of why, for the last 34 years, I have chosen to stay active in the local, grassroots Republican Party. This is where common-sense lives. Those who ascend to the party leadership level too often conclude that they know best and attempt to force their will on others.
These same Kingmakers and Washington D.C. insiders continue to bestow their favor on candidate Brad Finstad through other levels of assistance not given to other candidates. As a delegate or alternate, do you know who you are going to vote for without even talking to the candidate or hearing their message? I am not surprised, but as someone who is giving their time and passion to this endorsement process you should be aware and be outraged that your efforts, like mine, are so easily disregarded.
I started my own campaign for Congress and hired my own staff. I personally attended nearly every county Republican convention, often being the last to leave. I have personally texted, called or reached out to every delegate to the upcoming Convention. I have visited businesses and had coffee with common people to hear their frustrations. Finally, I have raised the money needed to run and win the nomination and the special primary. These funds were raised from within the district – from individuals, farmers and small business-owners like yourself who feel that our Country is heading in the wrong direction.
I understand and accept that Kingmaking and interference from Washington D.C. elites to handpick their favored candidate is part of the political process. But it is wrong. I just want to make sure that you are aware of this reality – especially if you are a delegate and alternate that has been so passionate and generous of your time. You deserve to make your own decision. Please empower yourself to choose who you feel is the best candidate to put our Country on a course correction.
See you on April 23rd – I hope!
